Enhance your capacity for leading effective community engagement and dialogue through a combination of learning new frameworks, practising essential skills and collaborating with colleagues.

Course Content

Course curriculum

Day 1: 

  • Welcome and introductions
  • Course purpose, history and overview
  • Introductions to frameworks
  • Framework 1: Four models of company-community interaction and exercise
  • Framework 2: Five levels of working with communities, inside your organisation and with other organisations and exercise
  • Framework 3: Facilitating sustainable, people-centred community development and exercise

Day 2:

  • Reflection on day 1
  • Framework 4: Oxfam’s Human Rights Framework and exercise
  • Introduction to dialogue, Principle 1 and 2, exercise and roleplays
  • Principle 3 and 4 in dialogue exercise and roleplays

Day 3:

  • Practical applications: Choropampa case study
  • Course assignment
  • Evaluation and learning reflection

 

Additional Details

Time commitment
This is an in-person course that will require roughly 24 hours to complete.

3-day workshop (8 hours per day)

 

Assessment
There is an assignment for this course which is completed during the workshop on day 3.

 

Certification and accreditation
Students who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate of Completion to verify their skills and achievements.

Prerequisites

Who should attend
This course is suitable for:

 

  • social performance and other professionals (such as geologists, engineers and environmental scientists) who interact with communities and other stakeholders in the context of resource projects
  • mineral exploration and mining managers and program support professionals.
