Course Overview

Extend your knowledge of cybersecurity principles.

This microcredential course is an extension of  Cybersecurity Principles for Professionals.  Successful completion of both courses offers an alternative entry option to the Graduate Certificate of Cybersecurity for people without an undergraduate degree, and who have 4 years work experience. PLUS - there is a special bundle introductory price for both courses.

 

This microcredential advances on the concepts covered in Cybersecurity Principles for Professionals, and covers the management of cyber risk and the requirement to use digital forensics, application security and network security.   

 

Together with its companion course, Cybersecurity Principles for Professionals this microcredential can be stacked into a subject for potential advanced standing in the Graduate Certificate or Masters of Cybersecurity. 

 

 

Course Content

Topics include:

  • Emerging cybersecurity practices, regulation and standards
  • Comparison of approaches for cyber risk management used to address real world problems
  • Identify approaches to digital forensics, application security and network security in the context of cyberspace
  • Data security, web security, cryptography and possible solutions to cyber threats.

On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a digital credential and earn 10 credit points that can be accumulated with its partner course, Cybersecurity Principles for Professionals, to stack into  'Cybersecurity Principles'  (CSE4004), a subject within the Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity.

 

You’ll learn:

This microcredential will equip you basic skills in:

  • Identify security threats and determine counter measures
  • Analyse data to identify or resolve operational problem
  • Analyse security of systems network or data
  • Monitor the security of digital information
  • Non-technical skills (communication, problem solving and critical analysis).

This microcredential addresses the skills in the following Australian Skills Classification clusters:

  • Security and emergency services
  • Communication and collaboration
  • Digital technologies and electronics.

Your study experience

This course is fully online and self-paced.

The total expected time commitment for this course is 80 hours, which includes self-paced guided learning content, extended reading, optional drop-in sessions, and assessment.  While it is expected that this is completed over 4 weeks, with an additional 4 weeks for assessment, you will have access to the course for up to 6 months from the time of registration.

The assessment for this course comprises:

  • Written report (60%)
  • Online quiz (40%). 

Prerequisites

If you have 3 years of relevant IT work experience or 4 years other work experience, on successful completion of these microcredentials, you may be eligible for admission into the Graduate Certificate of Cybersecurity without the requirement of an undergraduate degree.
