Course Overview

As a site leader, the ability to understand, apply and influence the development of the management operating system (MOS) is critical for the execution, monitoring, and management of business performance of a site’s operations.


With a focus on practical skills that can be applied directly to your work, this 5-week associate certificate is designed to give you the expertise and insights to drive key decisions that ultimately impact the mine value chain and life of mine plan.


This includes enhancing and leveraging operational reports and cost estimations, translating strategic plans into implementation plans, and generating practical plans for applying your learnings to your own site.

Course Content

Module 1 | Management Operating System (MOS)

In this module you will learn about Management Operating System (MOS):

  • Describe the role of MOS in delivering strategy.
  • List the key components of a MOS.
  • Identify the critical success factors of successful mine asset management systems.
  • Recognise the opportunities of emerging MOS technologies.
  • Construct a personal plan of action to identify opportunities for MOS enhancement.

 

Module 2 | Life of Mine Planning (LOMP)

In this module you will learn about Life of Mine Planning (LOMP)

  • Describe the principles of life-of-mine planning and the mine planning process.
  • List the general inclusions of a LOM Plan.
  • Compare open pit and underground mine scheduling and how they link to business outcomes.
  • Model the effect of the supply chain fluctuations on business outcomes.
  • Construct a personal plan of action to identify opportunities to improve mine planning in your workplace.

 

Module 3 | Mine Operations Reporting

In this module you will learn the Mine Operations Reporting

  • Identify the key elements of an effective operations reporting system.
  • Examine the reports required to understand mine performance.
  • Describe techniques that maximise the interpretation and usefulness of mine operations reports.
  • Identify the minimum reports required for industry governance and compliance.
  • Construct a personal plan of action that will improve reporting effectiveness in your area of operations.

 

Module 4 | Mine Accounting

In this module you will learn about Mine Accounting

  • List the key elements of mine accounting.
  • Assess mine accounting principles and systems.
  • Describe the main risk generating factors that influence the quality of resource estimates.
  • Examine mine valuation techniques.
  • Construct a personal plan of action that will improve estimates in your area of operations.

Prerequisites

  • A good working knowledge of English.
